WASHINGTON – Vice President Kamala Harris has agreed to take part in a second presidential debate with former President Donald Trump, set for October 23, just days ahead of Election Day.

While Trump has not yet confirmed his participation, Harris expressed her hopes in a post on X, previously known as Twitter, encouraging the former president to join her for the debate.

Campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon announced in a press release, "Vice President Harris is eager for another chance to face Donald Trump and has accepted CNN's invitation for an October 23 debate. Trump should easily agree to this debate, as it's identical in format to the one he attended in June, where he claimed victory and commended CNN's moderators, rules, and high viewership."

In a post on Truth Social, the former president declared he wouldn’t participate in another debate with Vice President Harris, insisting he had already won their previous ABC encounter. However, when questioned last week about the possibility of a second debate, Trump responded to reporters, saying, “Maybe if I’m in the right mood.”

CNN revealed that the upcoming debate would follow the same structure as the one in June, held at the network's Atlanta studios between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Biden’s poor showing in that debate raised alarm among Democratic lawmakers, donors, and activists, ultimately prompting the president to withdraw from the 2024 race and throw his support behind Vice President Harris.

Earlier this month in Philadelphia, Harris and Trump went head-to-head in a debate organized by ABC News, clashing over critical topics like abortion, immigration, and the economy.
