Many Verizon consumers complained of having their cell phone placed in the "SOS mode" through which their phones have no ability to make calls or send text messages. SOS mode is meant to be a safety feature where the client can call for emergency services when ordinary networks are unavailable.

Verizon's Response

As of 10:30 a.m. ET, Verizon has no official statements about the outage on its social media pages. Reportedly, it was unavailable as well at its network status website. FOX TV Stations have contacted Verizon for an official statement or any updates regarding the situation.

What is SOS Mode?

Apple has introduced SOS mode on the iPhone 14. The mode enables users to send messages to emergency services via satellite in case of a network failure or when the user is outside the cellular or Wi-Fi coverage area. A message will be sent directly to the dispatchers via satellite, or forwarded to trained Apple specialists who can forward it so that they communicate the type of emergency for the user.

The SOS mode is automatically turned off by itself when cellular service is back on. In fact, Google has now said that the same satellite feature will be available on the soon-to-launch Google Pixel 9 as well.

Key Takeaways

No statement or cause for what went wrong has been announced from Verizon as yet.

More updates about the situation will also be done depending on what else would come out in more facts available.
